Sephardic and Mizrachi Genealogical Research in Israel, A Guidebook This work surveys resources on Sephardic and Mizrachi (Jews from Arab and Muslims Lands and the East) Jewry in Israel. The book will survey collections in relevant research institutions, archives, libraries, museums, Olim (Immigrant) associations, Sephardic Communal councils, Havrot Kadisha (burial societies of the various non-Ashkenazi ethnic groups), and kibbutzim and moshavim where Sephardim and Mizrachim settled in groups. Important cemeteries will be cited. The following main archives will be highlighted by record groups: The Jewish National and University Library, Yad Itzhak Ben-Zvi, the Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People, the Jerusalem Municipal Archives, the Central Zionist Archives, Yad Tabenkin, and the Italian Study Center. The book will also deal with varied aspects and how they can be researched in Israel, such as the Sephardim and Mizrachim in the Shoah (Holocaust). The work will be divided by country. It will cover the entire Mediterranean Basin countries, the Balkans, Bukhara (Uzbekistan), Georgia, Afghanistan, the Eastern Arab countries, Iran, India, Northern Europe, and the Caribbean. To assist the researcher, printed letter and orthographic tables will be added for Judeo-Arabic, Ottoman-Turkish, Arabic, Hebrew, Greek, and Cyrillic languages. This publication will complement other current books, articles, e-mail lists, and internet sites in its new finds on Sephardic/Mizrachi genealogy, most especially in its vast array of Israeli sources |
