The Israel Genealogical Society (IGS) is Israel's premiere genealogical organization, rewarding its members with a full range of research materials, guidance and support. Founded in 1983, the IGS is a non-profit organization with branches in: Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Haifa and the North, The Negev, Kiryat-Tivon, Petah Tikva and surounding area, Modiin, Rishon LeZion and Raanana. Branches activities include lectures and other activities throughout the nation which are open to the entire membership.
IGS members have created a variety of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to concentrate and share genealogical resources and methods of research for regions of origin including Israeli, German and Austrian, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Polish, Latvian and Sephardic ancestry. In addition to the Society's libraries, resources and support system, The Israel Genealogical Society is available to host a member's personal family homepage, as well as to acquaint the public with books published by members.
Members of the IGS receive the internationally acclaimed periodical Sharsheret Hadorot, a journal of Jewish genealogy featuring original in depth articles on a wide range of topics. Sharsheret Hadorot was conferred the coveted award by the International Association of Jewish Genealogy Societies (IAJGS) as the outstanding genealogy publication.
The IGS serves as an Israeli affiliate of the International Association of Jewish Genealogy Societies, periodically hosting in Jerusalem the Annual IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy.
